The Oahu Scuba Diving / PADI Scuba Certification Specialists

Oahu-Scuba-diving .com scuba dives all 4 regions of Oahu's scuba diving sites in Hawaii. Most Oahu scuba dive shops only scuba dive the south shore.

PADI Scuba Diving on Oahu Hawaii - Oahu Map

Oahu - the "gathering place" - is our home for world-class Hawaii scuba diving. From a SCUBA diver's perspective, Oahu has 4 distinct regions - North Shore, South Shore, East Shore, and the West Shore . Each region offers a different dive experience and has its own unique character. Each offers a different scuba dive experience.

Oahu's South Shore

The Honolulu South Shore provides us with two of the most exciting ship wreck scuba diving sites on Oahu. The van ride from Waikiki hotels to the Kewalo Basin Harbor only takes about 10 minutes.

Sea Tiger Ship Wreck
The Sea Tiger is the deepest ship wreck on the island. It was sunk as an artificial reef in 1999, is 189 feet long, and is thriving with marine life. It rests in 122 feet of water.

YO-257 Ship Wreck / San Pedro Ship Wreck
The YO-257 is arguably the most exciting ship wreck to dive. There are actually two ship wrecks to see at this site: The San Pedro (80 feet long) rests only 30 meters from the YO-257 (190 feet long). This is definitely a two-for-one dive. You can expect to see white-tip reef sharks, eagle rays, and even get your picture taken by the occupants of the Atlantis Submarine. That's right, the tourists will be inside the submarine looking out at you. Maximum depth is 107 feet.

Kewalo Pipe reef
This site provides you with easy navigation and the opportunity to see the elusive dragon eel. There is an abundance of aquatic life to observe and photograph. Maximum depth is 60 feet.

Nautical Reef
This is a horseshoe-shaped reef with a resident white-tip reef shark. You can expect to see eels, puffer fish, butterfly fish and green sea turtles. Maximum depth is 30 feet.

Turtle Reef
This reef is teeming with green sea turtles, cleaner wrasse and eels. These lava fingers extend to and from the shore. It is easy to navigate and fun to conduct photography or just enjoy the friendly aquatic life. Maximum depth is 35 feet.

Oahu's East Shore

Hawaii Kai's East Shore provides us with some more exciting shipwrecks for scuba diving on Oahu and even a WWII airplane wreck. The van ride from Waikiki hotels to the east Harbor is only about 30 minutes away.

Corsair Airplane
The only wreck that was not intentionally sunk as an artificial reef, the corsair was ditched by its pilot during WWII as it ran out of fuel. The aircraft is in remarkable condition and even has an intact glass face on one of the cockpit gauges. The plane sits in 107 feet of water and is the only site where we have seen the elusive garden eels.

Fantasy Reef
This reef system offers ample opportunity to photograph the green sea turtles and the many octopus that inhabit the reef. There are several swim throughs on this site and it is an excellent area to find 'sea biscuits' which are the tests of urchins. Maximum depth is 50 feet.

Baby Barge
At this dive site you can combine wreck and reef diving. You can expect to see the green sea turtles as well as the friendly white tip reef sharks. Maximum depth is 85 feet.

LST Wreck
The LST is an exciting wreck dive which allows for easy wreck penetration. It is 110 feet long and sits in 95 feet of water

Portlock Wall
The wall provides the setting for some of the most exciting drift diving on the island of Oahu. There are caverns to explore and small caves to visit. The maximum depth is 90 feet, but most dives are done between 40 and 60 feet.

Sea Cave
The Sea Cave is an exciting cave dive located between Portlock Wall and Paliea Point. The mouth of the cave is located in 55 feet of water and the cave extends inward approximately 150 feet. You can expect to see white-tip reef sharks and sea turtles as well as many different types of shells and reef fish.

Paliea Point
This site is not always available due to the water conditions. When it is conducive to safe diving it is one of the most beautiful dive sites in the world. Maximum depth is 90 feet.

Oahu's West Shore

Wainai's west Shore also provides us with an older ship wreck for scuba diving on Oahu. The van ride from Waikiki hotels to the west Harbor is about 1 hour away.

Mahi Shipwreck
The Mahi was a navy mine layer in WWII. It was sunk as an artificial reef in 1982 and has been one of the most sought after dive sites on the islands. It is 189 feet long and sits in 90 feet of water. There is a family of eagle rays living on the wreck and it is the only place that you will see a large number of puffer fish schooling. This is an easy dive, lying just a short boat ride from the harbor.

Airplane Canyon
This site has a BeechCraft airplane resting on the bottom in 95 feet of water. We often see an oceanic white-tip reef shark resting under a ledge close to the plane. Maximum depth at this site is 112 feet.

Makaha Caverns
Makaha Caverns is a beautiful reef system that will always surprise you. You just never know what you are going to see. The reef is teeming with octopus, eels, turtles, eagle rays, white-tip reef sharks and any number of the tropical fish that Hawaii has to offer.

Electric Beach
The actual name of this site is Kahe Point, but is commonly called Electric Beach due to the electricity-generating plant located directly across the highway from the entry site. The plant uses seawater to cool its turbines and then returns this warmed water to the ocean via underground pipes. The warmed water stirs up the bottom as it flows up and out attracting a great number of feeding fish. It is a great site to conduct photography and fish identification. The maximum depth is 29 feet.

Oahu's North Shore

The North Shore provides us with some great shore scuba diving on Oahu. The van ride from Waikiki hotels to the dive sites is about 2 hours away.

Sharks Cove
Sharks Cove was named many years ago because of a meat processing plant that was located just across the road from the site. At the end of the day, the plant personnel would take the scraps from the day's processing and throw them into the sea within the cove. It did not take long for the sharks to figure out that there was a free dinner at the end of the day. It was a daily event for the local population to come out and watch the sharks eat inside the cove. The meat plant has been gone for many years and the sharks no longer f requent the cove but the name stayed. It is an awesome diving and snorkeling site. Maximum depth is 35 feet.

Fire House
This site provides swim throughs and canyons to explore. You can expect to see white-tip reef sharks and frog fish as well as all of the other tropical fish in Hawaii. Maximum depth is 50 feet.

Three Tables
Three Tables is a diversified site that provides swim throughs, canyons and flat reef plateaus. All types of training can be conducted here because of the attainable depths on the outer reef. Three Tables is also a great snorkeling site for the entire family. Maximum depth is 60 feet.

***North Shore dive sites are generally only available during the summer due to the frequent large winter swells
